History of all languages shows that vocabulary of a language grows with the number of people speaking it.
English is a very matured language. Its universal success can be associated with its capacity to describe almost everything and anything. English did this by "borrowing" words from other languages. This is how it grew to become one of the most preferred and dominating mode of communication in the modern world.
For example, the English word apartment came from French appartement. English borrowed this word from French language. And French borrowed it from Italian language (appartamento).
This is how any language grows. The speciality about English is that it was eager to learn new things and expand its vocabulary. This quaity to explore new things and concepts is very crucial for survival of any language. English is very good at this.
When English came to India, there were things and concepts in India that were new to western English. There were no words for it. English had to loan words from local languages and expand its vocabulary.
