This course will focus on the training method widely used by contemporary dancers - release technique. Technique is a term loosely used for release work as it is not a fixed set of combinations, routines or steps but rather an exploratory tool. It uses breath, alignment, imagery and core strength to uplift a dancer. We shall be exploring this extensively in our classes.
Another aspect that we will explore is improvisation - a tool used both for choreography and to get a better understanding of their own bodies by dancers and choreographers alike. It helps a dancer to better understand their own vocabulary and how they move naturally. The term 'improvisation' essentially refers to dancing without any fixed choreography and simply responding to the music, surroundings or the given context.
We will also be doing fixed warm-up and cool-down routines.
