I hope the following five rules will help you to study the lessons properly.

1. Have a proper time schedule for studying and doing extracurricular activities. Attaching an appropriate time table in front of your study table is the perfect way to start.
2. Limit your study materials: Read and understand NCERT books properly. That's enough! It is better to avoid extra materials as it wastes your time and puts too much burden on your head. If you want to be no. 1 do every intext problems and exercises.
3. Seek help from knowledgeable persons: When you have doubt, firstly, seek your teacher. Asking doubts and answering a question from teachers will make your mind very attentive. When the same arises in your home, ask your parent or educated elder members of the family. Life is all about sharing! 
4. Apply the basic concepts that you learned to daily life: For example, in some instances, you may get the opportunity to calculate the total bill amount or any interest rate for your mother with your mathematical skills. Here you are not only helping them but also, you are putting a memory tag in your brain so that what you learned will not be forgotten.
5. Make good friends: It may seem unimportant. But it matters. If you have good friends, you can create a good atmosphere in your class to study. They can act as mirrors so that you can see what you know and what you don't.
