Dr. Sujit Das

Teaching is a noble and inspirational profession that has always fascinated me. While I am working in the capacity of Scientist/Engineer, I am keen to serve in an academic role. My teaching experiences cover working with GIC and a teaching assistantship at Carleton University, where I became an expert on transportation engineering subjects and geographical information systems. During my teaching practice, I employed interactive learning techniques, like case studies, practical examples that demonstrate real-world applications, field trips, assignments, group discussions, use of simulation models and planning software. I taught the following subjects Transportation Planning and Engineering, Surveying, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Engineering Mechanics, and Engineering Mathematics. For the next 3 to 5 years, I can teach the above-mentioned subjects. In addition to the above courses, I can teach the following undergraduate courses, such as Highway Engineering and Traffic Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering. Moreover, I can also design and teach the following graduate courses such as Traffic-Related Air Pollution, and Urban Transportation Planning which are multi-disciplinary. When I was working as a teaching assistant at Carleton University in Canada, I got training on teaching methodologies and inclusive teaching practices. Based on my experience, I wrote a TA Article on Cultural Diversity: Inclusive Teaching Practices in the Diverse Classroom. During my service in India, I handled nine sponsored research projects. Among them, I was involved as principal investigator for five projects and co-PI for several projects. There were two publications before my PhD. Two papers are ready to publish on Doctoral research and edited by my supervisor. However, I am writing two more papers. I downloaded journal papers and articles during my literature review tenure for research purposes. I can share my experiences on teaching methodologies, and research projects, and help for publications to both on-campus and off-campus communities for their skills development. I desire myself an expert for virtual tours of the world’s famous tourist places using Google Earth. I use the same technology for preparing pre-travel plans. I used to be a member of Toastmasters International, where I practised my communication skills as well as leadership skills.
I will use those skills for community development within the IIT Jammu campus. Moreover, I reached to top ten finalists of the Minutes thesis (3-MT) competition in the year 2017 at Carleton University. This completion is not popular in India yet. I can start the same concept at IIT Jammu as well as in India among graduate students. Overall, my multicultural mindset will help for development of both on-campus and off-campus communities.
