Comparing two quantities of same units( length, volume or currency etc.) is called 'ratio'. Example: A has 3 pens & B has 4 pens, then Ratio of the number of pens is 3:4 ( : pronounced as is to) or 3/4.
we cannot compare 6 boys and 8 cows since cow & boy are not the same kinds, hence it is not the ratio. IF two ratios are equal, it is proportion. ( 2/4=1/2).
A ratio is also called as a fraction (3/4). A fraction with denominator 100 is called percent. per means by, cent = 100.
A fraction when multiplied by 100 becomes percentage ,symbol as %( i,e 1/2 x 100 = 50%) ex: 20% = 20/100)
Conversion of percentage into Ratio is as follows:
- 25 %( percentage) = 25/100 = 1/4(fraction) = 1:4 (ratio)
