Our Carnatic music and Bhajan classes cater to two age groups, 5-13 and 14-21, offering both group and individual learning experiences. We aim to cultivate a deep appreciation for Indian classical music and devotional singing.
For the 5-13 age group, we focus on building a strong foundation with:
- Sarali Swaralu: Basic scale exercises.
- Janta Swaralu: Paired note exercises.
- Alankaralu: Ornamental patterns within ragas.
- Simple Geethams (songs) and an introduction to basic ragas like Mayamalavagowla and Shankarabharanam.
- Introduction to basic talas (rhythmic cycles) like Adi Tala and Rupaka Tala.
- Simple and emotionally evocative Bhajans with easy rhythmic patterns.
For the 14-21 age group, we progress to more advanced concepts:
- Advanced Sarali Swaralu, Janta Swaralu, and Alankaralu.
- Varnams, which delve into raga structure and tala intricacies.
- Kritis, with complex raga renderings.
- Ragaalapana, the art of raga improvisation.
- Swarakalpana, the spontaneous creation of melodic phrases within a raga.
- In-depth study of various talas.
- Bhajans in diverse ragas, focusing on emotional expression and rhythmic mastery.
