The Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) is a computer-based English language test trusted by universities, colleges and governments around the world. It offers candidates the fastest, fairest and most flexible way of proving their English language proficiency for studying or immigrating abroad.
Unlike other English language proficiency tests, PTE Academic consists of a single 3-hour test session which includes three sections: speaking and writing (together), listening and reading. There are twenty different question formats, ranging from multiple choice through to essay writing and interpreting information.
Part 1, which comprises of Speaking and Writing ranges between 77 to 93 minutes and has a range of questions as listed under:
- Personal introduction
- Read aloud
- Repeat sentence
- Describe image
- Re-tell lecture
- Answer short question
- Summarize written text
- Essay (20 mins)
Part-2, Reading ranges between 32 - 41 mins and there are 5 types of questions in this section, namely:
- Reading & writing: Fill in the blanks
- Multiple choice, choose multiple answers
- Re-order paragraphs
- Reading: Fill in the blanks
- Multiple choice, choose single answer
Part-3, Listening can vary between 45-57 mins. and has the following question types:
- Summarize spoken text
- Multiple choice, choose multiple answer
- Fill in the blanks
- Highlight correct summary
- Multiple choice, choose single answer
- Select missing word
- Highlight incorrect words
- Write from dictation
