Who can learn?
This class is designed for beginners who have little to no prior knowledge of the German language. It is ideal for adults and teenagers who are interested in learning German for personal enrichment, travel, work, or academic purposes. The course is also suitable for those who aim to communicate with German-speaking friends or family members or plan to move to a German-speaking country.
2. Learning Objectives:
Students in this class will acquire fundamental German language skills. By the end of the course, they will be able to:
- Understand and use basic German vocabulary and phrases in everyday situations, such as greetings, introductions, and simple conversations about themselves and their surroundings.
- Develop listening and speaking skills to handle common interactions, such as ordering food, asking for directions, and making small talk.
- Gain familiarity with German pronunciation and intonation.
- Learn essential grammar, including the present tense, noun genders, articles, and simple sentence structures.
- Read and comprehend simple texts and signs in German.
- Write basic sentences and short paragraphs about familiar topics
3. Course Materials and Requirements:
Students are encouraged to bring the following to each class:
- A notebook and pen/pencil for taking notes and completing in-class exercises.
- A German-English dictionary or a language translation app for quick reference.
- Any textbooks or workbooks assigned by the instructor, which will be specified during the first class session.
- A folder or binder to organize handouts and homework assignments.
Additionally, students are expected to have access to a computer or tablet with internet connectivity for completing online exercises and participating in virtual sessions, if any.
