First of all, entrepreneurs come in all sizes and shapes because every industry is different. An Oligopoly is different from monopolistic competition. A digital business is quite different from an offline traditional trading business. A service business is quite different from a product business. The 0–1 stage is quite different from the 1–10 stage and so is the 10–100 stage of the startup growth. It needs distinct and different management styles and understanding. An entrepreneur needs to adapt to change quickly. There are 3 key things an entrepreneur needs to work on to build understanding.
- Capital: How much capital does the business need to sustain on its own? For a customer-funded business, it’s about the ability of the entrepreneur to do sales and acquire much-needed capital to hire people and develop products and services. The ability to manage finances and having a close tab on income and expenses is key to survival at the early stage.
- Entrepreneurship: The entrepreneur needs to know how to build his business model and create a winning culture. He has a good understanding of his strengths and also knows the strengths of his competition. He can act as a manager, a director, or even as an employee when required.
- Human Resource: It is by far the most neglected resource in Entrepreneurship. Having the ability to lead people and get work out of them requires clear goals, communication, and leadership skills.
