How to tune the violin
Tuning is the process of increasing or decreasing the tension of the strings that we attain by using the two parts of the violin:
-
Tuning pegs: Changes the pitch significantly.
-
Fine Tuners: This is used to make finer adjustments.
Pegs are for large changes in pitch while fine tuners are for the small tweaks. It is a good practice when using a peg to first loosen it (even if you want to increase the pitch of the string) and release the extra tension before you tune up. Beginners would be advised to use the services of a professional to tune the violin. If you are doing it yourself, use the fine tuners to tune the violin as by turning the pegs indiscriminately you could risk breaking your strings.
Violin Tuning settings:
-
E string - Madhyasthayi Panchamam (Pa) - 1st String from Right → A4 ( 440 Hz)
-
A string - Madhyasthayi Shadjam (Sa) - 2nd String from Right → D4 (294 Hz)
-
D string - Mantrasthayi Panchamam (Pa) - 3rd String from Right → A3 (230 Hz)
-
G string - Mantrasthayi Shadjam (Sa) - 4th String from Right → D3 (147 Hz)
