This class will cover a very generic overview of major sociological theories in 1 hour duration:
This include:
Macro theories: functionalism, structuralism and conflict perspective
Micro theories: symbolic interactionalism, ethnomethodology .
Apart from giving a broad overview of these perspectives some of the important thinkers will also be discussed under these perspectives: like Marx, Mead, Durkheim, Garfinkel, Levi Strauss, Burger and Luckmann.
Diagramatically explaination will be provided for the better understanding of all the concepts.
A lot of real life examples will be used to enhance the understanding.
Simple use of language and avoiding the complexity of the theories will be the motive.
Important references or books will be suggested for all these concepts.
Reason for this course:
As these concepts are vast in nature and also very difficult to grasp for many students, Students often hunt for a particular book which will provide the explainations of all these in a easy way. However, its difficult to acquire all-in-one books where all the theories are available. Hence, the motive of this course is not to just simplify the concept but also to provide them with easy references.
