What type of mixture are separated by the technique of crystallisation?
By the technique of crystallization, pure solids are separated from impurities. For example, salt obtained from the sea is separated from impurities; crystals of alum (Phitkari) are separated from impure samples.
How will you separate a mixture containing kerosene and petrol(difference in their boiling point is more than c)which are miscible with each other?
Simple distillation can be used when the temperature difference between the boiling points of two miscible liquid is at least 25oC. The temperature difference between the boiling points of kerosene and petrol is 25oC. Hence, this mixture can be separated using simple distillation.
Name the technique to separate (i)Butter from curd,(ii)Salt from sea water(iii)Camphor from salt.
Centrifugation:
Centrifugation is done by using a machine called centrifuge.
Centrifugation is a method for separating the suspended particles of a substance from a liquid in which the mixture is rotated or spun at a high speed in a centrifuge.
Evaporation:
Evaporation is used to separate a solid substance that has dissolve in water or any other liquid.
The use of process of evaporation for separating a mixture is based on the fact that liquids vaporise easily whereas solids do not vaporise easily.
Sublimation:
The changing of a solid directly into vapours on heating and air vapour into solid on cooling is called sublimation.
The process of sublimation is used to separate those substances from a mixture with sublime on heating.
SOLUTION:
I) butter from curd- CENTRIFUGATION
ii) Salt from seawater-
EVAPORATION
iii) camphor from Salt-
SUBLIMATION
