Challenges for the new Nation – In this section, you will study about the three main challenges faced by free India after getting independence such as the challenge of diversity, challenge of establishing democracy, and the challenge to ensure the development and well being of the entire nation, not just some parts of the society.
Partition – displacement and rehabilitation – In this section, you’ll acquire knowledge about the process of partition of India and Pakistan, the challenges and difficulties faced during partition such as unwillingness of some Muslim communities to go to Pakistan, partition of Punjab and Bengal, the problems faced by minorities on both sides of the border, terrible consequences of partition such as killings and violence, formation of communal zones of cities like Lahore, Amritsar and Kolkata, minorities escaping into refugee camps and formation of Muslim league.
Integration of Princely States – In this section, you’ll learn about paramountcy or suzerainty of the British crown, power enjoyed by princely states, problems faced due to the integration of princely states, the unwillingness of rulers of princely states to give democratic rights to the public. You’ll also study about the government’s approach in this situation and special cases of Hyderabad and Manipur.
Reorganisation of States – After the partition and integration of princely states, in this section, you’ll study about the reorganisation of states and internal boundaries of the Indian states. You’ll also study the formation States Reorganisation Commission in 1953 to reorganise the boundaries of the Indian states based on different languages.
