The third chapter in NCERT class 12 Biology is about human reproduction. Section 3.1: In this section of chapter 3, you will study about the male reproductive system. The reproductive organs are located near the pelvis region of males. It comprises of a pair of testes along with glands, accessory ducts, and the external genitalia. Here you will learn about the location of these parts and functions of these parts in producing the sperm. This section has been explained with the help of diagrams as well.
Section 3.2: In the previous section, we covered the male reproductive system and its functions. In this section, you will learn about the female reproductive system. The reproductive system of females comprises of a pair of oviducts, cervix, uterus, and vagina which is situated near the pelvic area.
Section 3.3: In this section, you will study about gametogenesis. Gametogenesis is the process where cells undergo meiosis to form gametes. The primary sex organs of both male and female produce gametes, that is, sperms and ova, respectively. The sperms in males are produced by spermatogenesis, and the ovum in females is produced by oogenesis.
Section 3.4: In this section, you will study about the reproductive cycle that all-female primates experience and it is known as menstruation. The first menstrual cycle in female primates starts at the stage of puberty and is known as menarche. The menstruation is repeated at an interval of around 28 to 29 days in human females.
Section 3.5: In this section, you will study how fertilisation and implantation take place. Fertilisation occurs when the ovum and the sperm are transported at the same time to the ampullary area. Fertilisation is the process where the sperm fuses with the ovum.
The stage of pregnancy where the embryo sticks to the wall of the uterus is known as implantation.
Section 3.6: For this Section, pregnancy and embryonic development have been explained thoroughly in chapter 3 of biology.
Section 3.7: In this Section, Parturition and Lactation have been discussed in details. Parturition is the process of delivering the foetus (childbirth). The mammary glands of females change, and they start producing milk by the end of pregnancy through the process known as lactation.
