Section 7.1: In the first section of chapter 7, you will learn about the origin of life. The origin of life is deemed as a unique event in the history of the Universe. The Big Bang theory explains it well. Here, you will also study about Miller’s experiment.

Section 7.2: In this section, you will study about the Evolution of Life Forms – A Theory. You will learn about conventional theories. These are based on the observations which were made during a sea voyage on the ship called the H.M.S. Beagle.

Section 7.3: In this section of chapter 7 – Evolutions, the evidence to prove Evolution is put forward. Some of the evidence left behind, which prove the theory of Evolution true, are fossils.

Fossils are found within aged sediments of rock; these preserve the anatomical structures of creatures that died. A study that was conducted on fossils showed the period in which they existed and this is known as paleontological evidence.

Section 7.4: In this section, you will learn about Adaptive Radiation. The journey that Darwin took to the Galapagos Islands is one where he observed a diverse number of creatures. It is the process of Evolution of various species in a particular geographical area which begins from a point, and it radiates to other areas of habitat. Section 7.5: In this portion of Chapter 7- Evolution, you will learn about Biological Evolution and the Darwinian Theory of Evolution. The two concepts of this Darwinian Theory are Branching Descent and Natural Selection.

Section 7.6: In this section, you will study how Evolution works. Darwin believed that Evolution was a gradual process, whereas DeVries believed that mutation caused speciation and was called saltation.

Section 7.7: In this section, you will learn about the Hardy-Weinberg Principle. According to this principle, the frequency of occurrence of alleles of a gene can be found in a given population. This frequency remains fixed, and it remains the same through the generations. The Hardy-Weinberg principle used algebraic equations to come to this conclusion. It remains constant and is called genetic equilibrium.
