NCERT Solutions for Class 11 Physics, Chapter 6 - Work, Energy, and Power

In the language of science, work done can be defined as the product of force and displacement. It is fundamentally one of the most basic laws of Physics. The output of any tool or machinery is calculated by using this essential formula or some derivative of the same. Chapter 6 of the book, Physics Part-I, consists of the 12 sub-sections, where each section explains the various aspects of the chapter in detail.

Let us take a look at the subtopics of Class 11 Physics, Chapter 6, Work, Energy, and Power.

6.1. Introduction

6.1.1. The Scalar Product

6.2. Notions Of Work And Kinetic Energy: The Work-energy Theorem

6.3. Work

6.4. Kinetic Energy

6.5. Work Done By A Variable Force

6.6. The Work-energy Theorem For A Variable Force

6.7. The Concept Of Potential Energy

6.8. The Conservation Of Mechanical Energy

6.9. The Potential Energy Of A Spring

6.10.  Various Form Of Energy: The Law Of Conservation Of Energy

6.10.1. Heat

6.10.2. Chemical Energy

6.10.3. Electrical Energy

6.10.4. The Equivalence Of Mass And Energy

6.10.5. Nuclear Energy

6.10.6. The Principle Of Conservation Of Energy

6.11. Power

6.12. COLLISIONS

6.12.1. Elastic and Inelastic Collisions

6.12.2. Collisions in One Dimension

6.12.3. Collisions in Two Dimensions

In class 11 Physics, Chapter 6, you will learn:

Section 6.1: In this section, you will learn that there is a distinction made between the scientific and the generalised perception of work, energy and power. Work done is a scalar quantity, being a dot product of the force vector and the displacement vector. Being a scalar quantity, it follows the Distributive Law.

Section 6.2: In this section, you will get to know that work may be defined as the displacement of a body, caused due to force acting on it. Therefore, change in the Kinetic Energy of a body may be defined as the work done by the sum of the forces acting on the body. You may refer to NCERT Solutions for Class 11 Physics Chapter 6 Pdf Download for more information here at UrbanPro.

Section 6.3: In this section, you will be learning about work from the perspective of Physics. We shall also be focussing on the cases when there is no ‘net’ work done, despite our general assumptions suggesting differently.

Section 6.4: In this section,  you will learn about Kinetic Energy- the energy of a moving body in this section of the chapter.

Section 6.5: In this section, you will learn why It is necessary to be able to calculate the work done by a variable force as the instance of a constant force working on a body is rare.

Section 6.6: In this section, you will learn about the relation between Work, Energy, and Force. Understanding the formulae and equations derived from Newton’s 2nd Law of Motion is important.

Section 6.7: In this section, you will learn about potential or ‘stored energy’ is the energy stored in a body by virtue of its position (usually height). This part of the chapter also explains the relation between Potential and Kinetic Energy.

Section 6.8: In this section, you will get to to know that energy may be defined as the ability to do work. The work done by conservative forces depends only upon the initial and the endpoints. If the initial and the endpoints are the same, then the work done is 0. Check Work Energy and Power Class 11 NCERT Solutions for more details here at UrbanPro.

Section 6.9: In this section, you will learn that the spring stores Potential Energy. There are certain terms associated with the Force Law for spring, such as Spring Constant and Hooke’s law.

Section 6.10: In this section, you will learn about the various forms of energy available to us, in separate sub-topics. Some examples include heat, chemical, electrical, nuclear.

Section 6.11: In this section, you will learn that power may be defined as the rate of doing work or transfer of energy. It is very useful, and one of its main uses is the power rating of appliances.

Section 6.12: In this section, you will learn that there are two types of collisions- the term used for a situation when two bodies travelling from opposite directions collide with each other. More details about elastic and inelastic collision are explained in different sub-headings.
