In this chapter, you’ll learn about the p-block elements present in the periodic table. The p-block elements begin from the 13th group and go till the 18th group in the periodic table. Boron, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, fluorine and helium head the p-block groups. The main characteristic of p-block elements is that the last electron of all these elements enters the outermost p-subshell. Mostly, the p-block elements are good conductors of electricity and possess a shiny texture. They tend to lose their electrons easily.
The p-block elements have varied features. On one hand, we have Gallium that can melt in your hands easily and on the other hand, we have silicon (a metalloid), which is used in making glass. In this chapter, you’ll learn about electronic configuration, atomic radii, physical as well as chemical attributes of these elements, some significant trends and anomalous properties of boron, aluminium, carbon, silicon and their compounds.
Thus, an in-depth study of Class 11 Chemistry NCERT Solutions Chapter 11 will give you a good understanding of p-block elements, their characteristics and uses in day to day lives.
