Bioinformatics is a powerful tool for gene identification, molecular analysis of gene function, evolution and structural analysis. Sequence comparison and phylogenetic reconstruction form the basis all bioinformatic analysis and also determine the accuracy of bioinformatic predictions. This basic course is designed to gain first-hand expertise in the basics of bioinformatics supplemented by extensive practical training. The course is useful for students from graduate, post-graduate and doctoral courses but teachers and trainers are also welcomed.
The course explores theoretical and practical knowledge of sequence comparisons, substitution matrices, substitution models and gene phylogeny reconstruction with intensive practical training using real-life examples. It aims to develop the capacity to perform independent bioinformatic analysis in the participants.
The Course will be held within EcoLite Lab premises and involves 7 days of intensive hands-on experience with theoretical sessions. All participants will be provided by all necessary materials for participating in the course including course notes, laptops for working, and notebooks. Lunch/tea coupons for six days is eligible with the package. Outstation candidates could request booking of a decent dormitory at the additional charges of Rs. 200-250/day.
