Overview

Sugandh is dancer and an educator who is passionate about creating body movements through Kathak. She works extensively on artistry, technique, improvisations and characteristic energy.

She is a professional Kathak dancer and is also trained in Contemporary, Jazz and Ballet. She has been part of prestigious performing art companies and repertoire such as Pt. Birju Maharaj’s Kalasharam, The Danceworx, Gati and Sri Ram Center of Performing Arts, Delhi.

She has performed at various prestigious Festivals such as Sangeet Natak Academy, Lucknow, Pryaag Sangeet Samiti, New York Kathak Festival (NYFK)- Home Stages, among the other performances.

Her body movement work draws inspiration from theatre, performance art, and improvisation and is interested in developing a personal movement vocabulary.

Being an educator. Sugandh has been imparting training in body movement to young children and adults for over 8 years. After assisting her Gurus in Delhi for several years, she moved to Mumbai and founded Movement Stories a dance forum for creative learning through Kathak.

My motivation to teach dance derives from the same impulse that led me into my fulfilling dance career nearly 15 years ago. Since the beginning of my studies in the performing arts, I have sought to use physical movement to express stories and emotions in innovative ways, and I am a strong proponent of teaching others how to do the same. Throughout my career, I have consistently viewed dance as a way to enrich both performers’ and viewers’ lives, and I believe my obligation as a dance teacher is to encourage students to learn a variety of dance styles and pursue their own creative expression. Having experienced first-hand the power of dance to shape people’s perspectives, I am enthusiastic about using my professional experiences, skills, and beliefs to educate new young dancers in the techniques and movements of creative dance.
