Overview

Inspired by western classical guitar I learned the techniques and sight reading under tony john and mastered it further under the guidance of shankar sir. I further went to explore more on the western classical world in europe and met some great players like raphealla smits, roland broux, aram van ballaert, boris gaquere, antigoni goni and even the grammy award winner andrew york. By the time I learned classical guitar I have been playing bass guitar with bands like solfege, swarantar, clouds for clay.I am an active performer. Lately I have studied music at an advanced level at the true school of music. I have been free lancing with artists like keerthi sagathia, ravi chary, rahul jain and more upcoming musicians and artists. I compose music for bands, studios, and even record music for some bands.

Even if you do not want to be a pro but you still would want to be good in it. Also, a lot depends upon the amount of time that you give to your guitar and also the amount of concentration you put into it while practicing. Given that you give a concentrated practice with your instrument everyday for 1 hour. Then in three months you will have some decent knowledge of chord embellishments and scales. Which means you can strum the guitar and sing along the song you want. Given that its not a very tough song. Also you will be able to make some melodies. And ofcourse all this has to be done with the proper music theory for it to make sense. I hope it helps.

One of my personal favourite is La catedral by augustin barrios. you can find people playing that piece on youtube. These are WESTERN CLASSICAL. While blues include a different feeling altogether. although you can find some poeple amalgamating blues into western classical but that is a fusion kind of thing. One example is a piece called BOnza's blues. But pure blues ... listen to miles davis, gary moore and more. Just fiddle around on youtube. For jazz- listen to thellonius monk, Charlie parker. Also there is a new type of jazz that has developed recently. Listen to HAYATUS KAIYOTE, SNARKY PUPPY, BROTHERLY. You can find them easily on youtube. I hope after this you get the idea of the three genres. I wish you luck.!!

Vinay, you need to have some things in your bag when you want to start the improvisation part. It includes things like music theory/dexterity work/ scale knowledge and its application/ fretboard knowledge and more. I wish you luck for your journey.

It totally depends upon what you want to achieve and how much you practice. We are all learners till the time we stop learning by choice or when we are dead. So, it is a matter of personal choice and personal journey. I hope it helps.
