Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is an all India test conducted for students aspiring to pursue an MBA or allied programs from reputed B-schools in India. MAT is conducted by All India Management Association (AIMA) and the list of participating B-schools varies from year to year but usually more than 600 Management Institutes participate. All participating institutes in MAT are approved by either the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) or the Distance Education Council (DEC) or university affiliated colleges and departments. Candidates are advised by AIMA to check the approval/recognition status of various programs directly from the concerned Authorities/ Institutes/ Universities just to ensure they take MAT score. Here is the list of management institutes which accepts MAT scores.
MAT can be taken online – Computer based test or on paper – Paper based test according to the candidate’s convenience. Though most management entrance exams are conducted in the online mode, the number of students opting for the computer-based version of MAT is fewer. Only about 10% of the total number of applicants. Unlike other popular exams like CAT and XAT, MAT is conducted four times a year and more than two lakh students take this exam annually. Exam scores of CAT, XAT etc. are accepted only in about 100 schools, but MAT scores are widely accepted in about 600 B-schools. MAT is conducted in all major cities in the country and Dubai and Singapore abroad. Another advantage of taking MAT is that the difficulty level is lesser than in the case of CAT, XAT. This provides better chance for aspirants to score better and pursue PGDM programs. Test Venues for Paper Based Test and Computer Based Test are different. Graduates of any discipline and any age are eligible to take the MAT exam. Students in their final year can also apply. Aspirants of foreign origin can apply for the MAT exam too. They will require a valid passport in addition to a student visa. It is important that you check whether the management institute you want to apply accepts MAT scores.
