Job was the wealthiest, most blessed man, maybe in the whole world. He loves God very much and was faithful to follow His commands. At some point, Satan actually approaches God himself and basically asks God to put Job to the test.
God was speaking well of Job and how faithful Job was to him. Satan boasted that the only reason Job was faithful to God was because God had given him everything he could ever want: family, wealth, land etc. So God actually allows Satan to take all those things away from Job in order to see if Job would still be faithful to God.
So Job loses everything including his family and even becomes infected with leprosy; he is in terrible agony both physically and emotionally. Despite all this Job remains faithful to God.
However, the rest of the book of Job is about three friendsâ?? advice to Job on what to do. (Their advice goes on for a LONG time). Most of it is BAD advice (this is why you need to read the whole book of Job to get the Real message and not just pick any verse from it. Some of it is bad advice from ungodly men).
Job finally gives in and begins to curse God and becomes increasingly angry with him for ever allowing Job, a â??righteous manâ??, to suffer like that. Ultimately, God does not answer why he allowed Job to suffer. God tells Job that God is God and that Job is not God, and that Job could never understand Godâ??S ways or His reason for doing things.
Job finally repents and decides to trust God even while he is suffering. Because of his trust, God blesses Job WAY more than he was blessed at the beginning of the book. God restores Jobâ??s wealth, family, land and blesses him for his faith in God.
Job is a story about trusting God even in our suffering. God knows the pain we go through and he never leaves us there forever. He is ready to rescue us when we trust himâ??yes, even when it's hard to trust him.
