Blender can be used to created meshes for 3D printing. Meshes exported from Blender are usually imported into a piece of software takes the mesh and “slices” it into paths that the 3D printer can execute. An example of such Slicer software is Cura.

Just select two edges and press F – a new face will be created between them, connecting them! But the fill tool is limited – if you want to bridge more than one edge at a time, it won't get you very far. That's where the Bridge Edge Loops tool comes in.

You should be able to do some very cool things with it. From what i can tell, for people who are already excellent traditional artists like you, blender is a very steep learning curve, and vice versa. For people who aren't as talented traditionally, sometimes 3d comes easier to them.

A rounded edge is called a Fillet, and in Blender, you can apply a Fillet by selecting the edge (in edit mode) that you want to apply the fillet too. Then hit ctrl-B (Bevel). You can then use the mouse to adjust the size. If you move the scroll wheel you will get additional edges and it will curve into a Fillet.
