Following activities I am responsible to take care of,
1) Maintainance.
2) Optimization.
3) Manage Change Requests from our management.
4) Revamp in regular intervals as decided by management.
5) Checking plugin compatibility and replacing plugin as and when required.
Recent Plugins: I mostly work on creating / modifying plugin that has project specific requirements and not mostly generic. Although, I am working on making some of my plugins generic as those might offer addtional functionl vertex for any websites. Due to NDAs, I am afraid I won't be able to share plugin codes with you, but let me brief two of my plugins I recently developed,
1) WP Realtime: A plugin that allows to have realtime updates on front end upon content creation / modification / deletion.
Goal: We had to show realtime update of content modification in front end without browser refresh. If you are on a listing page of a post type in recent first order, and a post of that post type is just created in the admin, it will append in the front end list instantly without browser refresh.
Solution: Here, I introduced a PHP WebSocket, Ratchet server, up and listening to events as fired from admin and in turn emits a broadcast already subscribed in the front end via observables. So, when a post is created / modified / deleted, I used save_post, delete_post hooks to trigger up the Ratchet server via a specific secured port, the server is listening to and sent the details of the post and status to server. When the server receives the signal, it emits it to a particular event the front end is subscribed to. When front end receives the data in json format, it appends / alters / deletes content as per the status provided. I found we could have used Google FireBase for this as well, but as the WebSocket sits in the same server, the communication is faster.I also added a configuration page in admin for selecting post type and events (insert / update / delete / bulk action) for the realtime updates.
2) ARC Reviews: This is the most recent work of mine. This plugin handles all the reviews in our ARC websites and sync them beween websites via REST API.
Goal: We have one global website (www.e-arc.com) and three regional websites. The global website is old one and it has reviews for all the regions as well. We had to develop a common tool to submitting and managing reviews as well as to sync reviews between websites, so when a review is posted in www.e-arc.com for London location, it gets added to www.e-arc.co.uk and vice-versa.
Solution: Here I had to use existing table for this as www.e-arc.com has around 11K reviews and associated replies. It was built in custom way. I created a plugin that allows to show reviews and submission form anywhere using shortcodes. I handled submission using Ajax and created admin table for reviews by extending WP_List_Table Class. I added sortables to different columns as requied and introduced export functionality for this admin table. I also created a plugin dashboard that provides a quick look on the reviews per location in infographic way. For syncing reviews, I have created REST Endpoints and set in cron so that reviews by location get synced between website once in a day during non business hours.
