A performer, teacher, actor and performer Started learning Kathak dance at a very tender age. She was initially trained in Lucknow gharana under the guidance of Guru Bandana Sen for 8 years. After that, she joined Padatik Dance Centre and started training in Kathak in Lucknow Gharana under Pt. Vijay Shankar. Later she took lessons from Pt. Birju Maharaj and Saswati Sen. She worked with many dancers and choreographers of international repute like Pt. Birju Maharajji, Saswati Sen Pt. Vijay Shankar, Smt. Rani Karnaa, Smt. Kumudini Lakhia, Sara Pearson and others. She has performed at major festivals in India and abroad. She has several choreographies to her credit. Just to mention some of the terms are Chuti Chuti, Chaitra Aabasan, and Abahan for Kolkata Doordarshan. Susmita was the repertory Chief of Padatik for several years.
Susmita with her illustrious background in Kathak has also ventured into the field of acting in histrionics. She began her theatrical explorations with “Digambarim is then flowered into a mature performer in ‘Devi’s she went through various movements and acting training to groom herself into a full-fledged actor. She is now working on her oral skills under many experts.
