Knowing the fundamentals is a big thing for any musical instrument. Now, if he wants to pursue genres like rock or metal or so in the future, then better to learn the acoustic guitar first so that he can grab the knowledge perfectly. If he wants to play the western classical guitar, he can do that easily. But if he wants to pursue genres like jazz and classical, then better to start with a western classical guitar.
