It depends on a few factors. There are pros and cons for both means. Firstly, for online mode, availability of internet is very crucial. If someone from a remote area wants to learn or if there is a financial issue, then face-to-face is better. The pros of online mode are quite obvious. One, flexibility and zero requirement of travel, therefore much time is saved. Moreover you can use various apps, for instance for teaching Japanese language I use apps for creating quizzes and flashcards. These are just basic examples. Moreover, you can almost mimic the offline mode of study, like for instance you can share whiteboard in zoom meeting. And not to forget we can record classes. If both the modes are compared, in my opinion online mode wins
. But your first priority should be who your student is, whether that person can actually afford a stable connection in the first place.
