UPSC Examination
When it comes to UPSC examination structure, this examination is divided into two group, which is Group A and Group B of Central services.- Union Public Service Commission Group A Examinations: Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Police Service, Indian P & T Accounts & Finance Service, Indian Audit and Accounts Service, Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Central Excise), Indian Defence Accounts Service, Indian Revenue Service, Indian Ordnance Factories Service, Indian Civil Accounts Service, Indian Railway Traffic Service, Indian Corporate Law Service, Indian Defence Estates Service, Indian Postal Service, Indian Railway Personnel Service, Indian Railway Accounts Service, Indian Informative Service, Indian Trade Service and Corporate Law Service.
- Union Public Service Commission Group B Examinations: Armed Forces Civil Services. Delhi Civil Service, Lakshadweep Civil Service, Daman & Diu Civil Service and Dadra & Nagar Haveli Civil Service, Andaman & Nicobar Islands Civil Service, Pondicherry Civil Service.
- Delhi Police Service, Andaman & Nicobar Islands Police Service, Lakshadweep Police Service, Daman & Diu Police Service and Dadra & Nagar Haveli Police Service and Pondicherry Police service.
Indian Administrative Service (IAS)
Formerly known as Imperial Civil Service (ICS), Indian Administrative Service exam is one of the civil services examinations conducted by UPSC. IAS exam is considered the toughest exam to crack in India with roughly 10 lakhs applicants each year. Among the endless number of applicants, only a few competent candidates can crack this exam. Keep in mind, IAS is the highest administrative post among all.With regards to the IAS examination pattern, there are Prelims, Mains, and IAS Interview. IAS Preliminary Exam: This qualifying round has two papers - General Ability Test (GTA) and the Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT). The examination is based on multiple choice questions (objective in nature), and it has 400 questions along with negative marking system.
- IAS Mains: This examination consists of 2 sections. The initial segment has 2 language papers and the second segment has 7 papers, which sum up to the overall 9 subjects. The subjects are Indian Languages, English, Essay, General Studies I, General Studies II, General Studies III, General Studies IV, Optional Subject: Paper I and Optional Subject: Paper II.
- IAS Interview: Candidates who qualified Prelims exam will appear for the personal interview alongside Assessment and Psychometric test.
