Tamil is the oldest surviving language in the world; It has been proved by Archeological excavations, historians and literates; and that could be one of the reasons why people from various parts of the globe want to learn this sweet and unique language. The poems of sangam period that existed before around 2500 years are still available, and the poems are still understood by present Tamil scholars, which prove Tamil has not changed much in time unlike other Indian languages that have changed due to the inclusion of lots of Sanskrit words. Tamil is the unique language that has saved it's identity as the language of Dravids amidst all other languages that changed by Aryan invasion and the Sanskrit language brought by them. Tamil is a symbol if pride and beauty in Indian history and languages. It has lots of application in South Indian Classical Music and Bharat Natyam, a heavy classical dance, earlier danced by Devadashis in temples; this could be another reason why classical dancers round the world want to learn this language.
