I am in first year engineering and my communication skills are very low. I cant speak properly even with my friends. I am constantly afraid what they will think about me. So, I want to build my confidence and communication skills.what should I do?

First of all stop thinking that what others will think about you. Here, your problem is not like you can't understand English otherwise you could not explain your problem here. So, I guess your problem is very less than your anticipation, and will disappear with time. Here is my tips for improvement. We are not native English speaker so most of us first think in Hindi and then deliver the same thing in English, so what you have to do here is to minimize your time to translate your thoughts from Hindi to English. Set some time table and promise yourself that you will speak in your head for an hour daily in English only. By performing this exercise you would not have any threat that what others will think. There is no need to involve anybody else during your conversation. Whenever you get stuck during conversation with yourself then have help from English Dictionary. Also, one more suggestion that rather than read newspaper or magazine you can speak little loudly instead of reading.
