Hello Rohan!
There is a small error in the third quarter of the Shloka. Correct reading is - नास्त्युद्यमसमो बन्धुः.
सु-भाषितम् Pithy-saying:
आलस्यं हि मनुष्याणां शरीरस्थो महान् रिपुः |
नास्त्युद्यमसमो बन्धुः कृत्वा यं नावसीदति ||
प्रति-पद-अर्थः Word to word meaning:
आलस्यं (laziness) हि (only) मनुष्याणां (of men) शरीरस्थः (residing in the body) महान् (big) रिपुः (enemy) |
न अस्ति (there is no) उद्यम-समः (equal to work/perseverance) बन्धुः (friend) कृत्वा (by doing) यं (which) न अवसीदति (will not perish) ||
भावानुवादः Translation: Laziness is the big enemy of humans, which resides in the body itself; there is no other friend equal to work and perseverance, by doing which man will never perish.
