Writing Task 1 are assessed against the following criteria: task achievement, coherence and cohesion, lexical resource and grammatical range and accuracy. Writing Task 2 is assessed in much the same way except for the task response criterion.

  3. Lexical Resource:

    • This criterion assesses the range and accuracy of your vocabulary. You should demonstrate a wide range of vocabulary and use it appropriately to convey precise meanings. This includes the correct use of collocations, idiomatic expressions, and avoiding repetition.
  4. Grammatical Range and Accuracy:

    • This evaluates the range and accuracy of your grammatical structures. You need to use a variety of sentence structures, including complex sentences, and ensure they are grammatically correct. Proper use of punctuation is also considered.

Each of these criteria is weighted equally, and your overall score for the Writing section is an average of the scores you receive in these four areas. To achieve a high band score, it’s important to balance all these aspects in your writing tasks.
