The IELTS Speaking test is scored based on four criteria:

  1. Fluency and Coherence: This assesses your ability to speak fluently and coherently without excessive hesitation or repetition. It also evaluates how well you link your ideas and express yourself smoothly.

  2. Lexical Resource (Vocabulary): This measures your range of vocabulary and your ability to use it accurately. It includes your use of less common and idiomatic vocabulary.

  3. Grammatical Range and Accuracy: This evaluates your range of grammar structures and how accurately you use them. It includes sentence structures, verb tenses, and the correct use of articles, prepositions, and conjunctions.

  4. Pronunciation: This assesses your ability to produce sounds and intonation patterns that are clear and easily understood. It's not about having a native-like accent, but about being clear and understandable.

Each of these four criteria is graded on a scale of 0 to 9, and the scores are then averaged to provide an overall band score for the IELTS Speaking test.
