The IELTS Speaking test is scored based on four criteria:
Fluency and Coherence: This assesses your ability to speak fluently and coherently without excessive hesitation or repetition. It also evaluates how well you link your ideas and express yourself smoothly.
Lexical Resource (Vocabulary): This measures your range of vocabulary and your ability to use it accurately. It includes your use of less common and idiomatic vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: This evaluates your range of grammar structures and how accurately you use them. It includes sentence structures, verb tenses, and the correct use of articles, prepositions, and conjunctions.
Pronunciation: This assesses your ability to produce sounds and intonation patterns that are clear and easily understood. It's not about having a native-like accent, but about being clear and understandable.
Each of these four criteria is graded on a scale of 0 to 9, and the scores are then averaged to provide an overall band score for the IELTS Speaking test.
