Three things that I sharpely focus on -
a) Emotional Intelligence - This teaches you to be perceptive and understanding of people. People are driven by their emotions. It is essential that we perceive emotions well as it gives us a clarity into how people behave and lets you take ownership of your personality.
b) Communication - Communication is the key to a lot of complex issues. I believe communication bridges the gap between expectations and misunderstandings. Someone with a smooth and effective communication acts a brand for himself/herself in disguise (Especially during recruitment).
c) Learner - As changes grow it is a prerequisite that you must also grow or be equipped with more armors in his quiver (grow in his/her skill set. One has to be a good learner in order to be a good practitioner.
Honestly, I personally don't believe that one has to be meritorious to have a sharp personality. I believe that anyone who knows how to take care of themselves and can relate with the target audience and has a way with words can easily be the best of themselves effortlessly. My guidance has two elements, the art and the craft part. The art part involves the fresh new ideas, imagination,creativity and helping you identifying your strengths and weaknesses. The craft part involves presenting yourself in a proper code and knowing how to handle the situations .
