Once you've put a sweet guitar into your kid's hands, come to School of Rock for a tour and free trial lesson, and we'll help them love playing it.
There are a few general categories of guitar that are very popular. These styles have very different sound and playability characteristics. Deciding the style of which guitar to buy in advance will help narrow down your choices considerably.
One of the most important concepts behind the success of School of Rock is that if students are inspired by their instrument they'll get better that much faster. Your kid’s favorite bands and styles of music will be a good indicator of the best beginner guitar to buy for capturing their attention.

Make sure the guitar you will buy, must have truss rod in fretboard....so you can adjust its action if any bend comes in the fretboard. Try to buy from a store than online because at store, you can check different models from different brands and choose wisely. If you know someone who can play guitar (even basic chords or scales), then go along with that person. So he/she can check the tone or quality and you will also get an idea how the guitar sounds that you choose. He/she can also help you by thier suggestions to buy you a good guitar.

It is also important to ask yourself questions like what is the style of music I'm looking to play(heavier styles would benefit from electric guitars with humbucker pickups for instance while electric guitars with single coil pickups would do for a style like blues), do I want to be better able to reach the higher frets( to decide if you need a cutaway or not), Do I want to be able to plug in my acoustic guitar at some point( in that case semi acoustic could be the way to go), Do I want a coil splitting option on my electric guitar( beneficial if you want to play heavy styles but also have that single coil sound).
Also be sure to check that the guitar is in proper condition. No major damage or breakages, All electronics and mechanical parts are in good working condition(check volume and tone knobs, all pickups, pickup selector etc), No unwanted fret buzz or crackling sounds in knobs etc. It would be better to take someone who can check these for you if you are not sure.
Also make sure you get it set up so the truss rod, action, intonation are adjusted properly. Again someone who knows more about these and can verify that they are adjusted properly can help you if you are unable to make that judgement yourself.
