The position vector of any particle, at any instant, is given as vector distance of the particle w.r.t.origin. It can be provided in terms of coordinates of the point itself while the displacement vector is vector distance between two points other than the origin. It can be given as a difference between the position vectors of two points. Though it's direction may be from particle 1 to 2 or vice- versa, but in both cases, the magnitude of the displacement vector is the same.
