Experience:
In their first year of teaching, educators typically focus on establishing classroom routines and procedures, developing lesson plans and instructional materials, and implementing assessments to measure student learning. They build relationships with students and families and participate in professional development opportunities to improve their skills. In their second year, teachers reflect on and adjust their instructional practices based on student data. They collaborate with colleagues to improve instruction and student outcomes, serve as mentors or coaches to new teachers or student teachers, engage in school-wide initiatives and committees, and continue professional development opportunities. In their third year, teachers demonstrate growth in student achievement and classroom management skills. They take on leadership roles within the school or district, develop and implement new curriculum or instructional strategies, present at conferences or workshops on best practices in teaching, and continue to participate in professional development opportunities. Experienced teachers may also mentor new teachers or take on administrative roles within the school or district.
