For example a body first runs a distance of 200 metres in 100 seconds in going from her home to school in the north direction and the runs a distance of 200 metres again in 100 seconds in the reverse direction from the school to reach back home from where she started. In this case the total distance travelled is 400 metres and the total time taken is 200 seconds. thus speed of girl is 2 m/s. and velocity of girl is 0 m/s.

If we define a function f (x) where x is integer , if f (x) = f (- x) it means function is symmetric and if f ( x ) = - f (- x) it means function is anti- symmetric. Symmetric functions are even and anti-symmetric functions are odd.
