Computer activities carried out by means computer or the internet.Cybercriminals may use computer technology to access personal information, business trade secrets, or use the Internet for exploitive or malicious purposes. Criminals can also use computers for communication and document or data storage.

Type of cyber crime :

  1. Hacking: Illegal intrusion into the computer system without the permission of computer owner and user. 
  2. Denial of service attack: Denial of service is a malicious attempt to make the server or network resource unavailable user, usually temporarily interrupting or suspending the service of host connected to the internet. 
  3. Software privacy: Theft of the software through the illegal copying of genuine programs of the counterfeiting and distribution of products intend pass for the originals. 
  4. Virus dissemination: Malicious software that attaches itself to the other software.
    (Virus, worm, Trojan horse, time bomb, logic bomb, rabbit and bacterium are the malware software.)

  6. IRC crime: Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is an application layer protocol that facilitates communication in the form of text. The chat process works on a client/server networking model. IRC clients are computer programs that a user can install on their system. Criminals use it for meeting co-conspirator.
     
  7. Credit card fraud: You have to simply type credit card number into www page site of the vendor for online truncation. If electronic truncation are not secure credit card number can be stolen by the hacker who can be misuse this credit card by impersonating the credit card owner.
  8.  Phishing: Phishing is attempt to acquire sensitive information such as username, password, credit card number, often for malicious reason, by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication. 
  9. Spoofing: A technique used to gain unauthorized access to the computer, whereby intruder sends message to a computer with an IP address indicating that the message coming from a trusted host.  
  10. Cyber stalking: The criminal follows the victims by sending emails, entering the chat rooms frequently.
  11. Cyber defamation: The criminal sends emails containing defamatory matters to all concerned of the victim or post the defamatory matters on the website.
    (Disgruntled employee may do this against boss, Ex-bf against girl, divorced husband against wife etc.) 
  12. Threatening: The criminal sends threatening email or comes in contact on chat rooms with victim.
    (Any one disgruntled may do this against boss, friends or official) 
  13. Salami attack: In information security, a salami attack is a series of minor attacks that together results in a larger attack. Computers are ideally suited to automating this type of attack.
    In such crime criminal makes insignificant changes in such a manner that such changes would go unnoticed. 
  14. Net extortion: Copying the company’s confidential data in order to extort said to company for huge amount.
