I have got some good feedback of a online Guitar learning site for beginners. This is also an App that can be downloaded on your device. There are actually a plenty to choose from. There are paid sites that offer good instructions on skype. I know Jamplay site is a good one.

Oh yes, when tuning the sixth string, the beginner has made sure that the sound is 440Hz which is a standard for the chromatic scale. This indeed needs vast experience to recognize the frequency and the beginner may require a tuner but should try to get away with it as he improves with practice

These days, I use calculators to do my sums. Earlier I used to calculate on paper by writing numbers and doing my counts. The earlier practice kept my brains exercised. But now, I am growing dumb with these gadgets. All I mean to say is gadgets impedes your thinking process. When I tune with an electronic tuner major part of my concentration is towards the indicator lights that go up and down as I adjust string tension. My ears are not fully participating. I am totally dependant on visual accuracy. It helps, as it is accurate, easy to use, less of hassle...but Am I learning anything? But When I manually tune, my ears, my eyes, my mind, responses, understanding, and everything is in play. I am submerged into the feel of sound and I know how to manipulate to reach accuracy - I am truly learning music in itself. In the end, If I know how to tune by myself I am not dependant on others or other things. Lastly, I prefer devices for tuning only when my surrounding is noisy and I cannot get the subtle sound in my ear.

A 10 year old kid! If interested in music has begun early in life and is good. You can subject any Guitar to a kid at any age. The kid will take it through - will handle the size and weight of it with his will and play his own way. Even I had notions in mind about it until it was defied by the way I see kids playing in You tube - How do they manage that!! But in a common world you obviously suggest a child one that he can manage to use. Classical Guitar and Acoustic guitar are two different concepts. They acoustic and technically look the same but are designed for its unique playing styles. The classical is strictly finger picking style and played softly over nylon strings. The acoustic is played either by strumming, plucking, bending, hammering, pulling and do whatever and you would mostly prefer steel strings to sound it sharper and louder. Now what between these two? Does the child want to learn classical music or any other free form. If the child wants to learn classical you will have to buy him a classical guitar. Now you understand the rest. I would not restrict to any age now. 10 years is old enough now and ready for a fret board.

Your passion for learning Guitar has to be really high. At home, you can learn either by yourself with the aid of tutorials over electronic or internet medium or having a teacher visit you. After you have answered the question "how" you must ask yourself "what" to learn? This is very important as an individual may aim at playing some cover songs one day or emulate his favorite star which is a limited thought but a teacher may guide you to a structured learning process which will take you a very long way in the field of music - for example you may learn theory of music from the teacher. It takes magnanimous effort for an individual to understand and learn music theory by himself - you can but it takes longer time. Learning at home by an individual may be entirely mood driven, and variable, you may aimlessly fiddle the guitar. Going to school will be schedule based, structured, assessed, progressive and shared learning kinds. You will enjoy as you will have lessons to work on. I am only enumerating the pros and cons of Home and School learning but in the end it is your choice. I am self taught and learnt at home, it took me longer than usual time to learn. Good luck - make a start with home at least. It is nevertheless a good initiative.
