In frequency division multiplexing, available bandwidth i.e. total frequency spectrum available to us is partitioned in sub range of frequencies and each frequency is used to carry different signals and these are transmitted at the same time via optical fibre or any any medium. Point to remember here is that sub-ranges of frequencies are non-overlapping in nature. For example, radio where you can tune in to different stations running at different sub-frequencies like 106.4 MHz, 102.6MHz etc.
