So far i've taught around 300-400 students (Including Individual and Group classes). As an instructor, i believe, learning guitar is learning to fuse balance between technicality and musicality. With time developing the craft of our instrument and musical ability is of paramount importance towards becoming a good Guitar Player. First learn to play slow, then you'll automatically learn how to play anything fast. Playing slow is as difficult as playing fast, and should be approached first in order understand the minute errors in your playing . Because when we play something fast we don't see the minute details and errors in our playing , so its always good to start playing slow first and then gradually develop the tempo.
