The best way to learn Japanese Language is by knowing the real Japan. Try to read a lot about japan and watch anime about a week before you start to learn the Language. Believe me when i say so. Start first with the alphabets and basic words. Try to identify the things around you in Japanese Language.... ...more
The best way to learn Japanese Language is by knowing the real Japan. Try to read a lot about japan and watch anime about a week before you start to learn the Language. Believe me when i say so. Start first with the alphabets and basic words. Try to identify the things around you in Japanese Language. Also in the beginning make chart of the alphabets and some basic words, sentences and greetings. PS: with learning the Language stay in touch with that country's culture. It will the Language learning more interesting. :)

What textbooks did you use on learning Japanese? 

For grmmer i would suggest donna toki dou tsukau.. a very good book which explains in English as well as Korean and Chinese Language with example. Other than this you can also study news from nhk web easy. This will help you in reading alongwith listening ability.

How to determine onyomi and kunyomi of each kanji character?

It is difficult to remember kunyoumi and onyoumi of all the kanji. What i would suggest is to learn compound words of the kanji. This will keep you out from getting confused. Also put these words into practice. :)

How do I practise writing sentences in Japanese?

First frame out your sentences in Hindi in your mind. Then try to find the equivalent words. Apply Japanese grammar you know. Work done :)

Is there a test i can take just to see what level i am at?

Sure to check your Japanese level, JLPT(Japanese Language Proficiency Test) exam is conducted twice a year with 5 levels. N1 being the advance level and N5 being the beginner level.
