Perimeter & Properties of square, triangle and rectangle:

i. Formulas:

  • Perimeter of a square= 4 × side
  • Perimeter of a triangle= Addition of all the sides
  • Perimeter of a rectangle= 2 × length + 2 × breadth i.e = 2 (length + breadth)

ii. Properties:

  • Sides of a square are always equal.
  • If one of side of a square is 4 cm then the other sides too will be 4 cm only.
  • Opposite sides of a rectangle are equal and congruent.
  • If one of side of a rectangle is 6 cm then its opposite side will also be 6 cm only.
  • All the sides of a triangle are not equal and same.
  • Sides of a triangle may differ.
  • Sides of a square will never change and opposite sides of rectangle never changes.
  • A rectangle has longer side as its length.
  • A rectangle has shorter side as its breadth.

iii. Example:

The sides of a rectangular field are 150 m, 120 m, 150 m and 120 m. Find the perimeter of the rectangular field.

Given: Length of a rectangular field = 150 m

            Breadth of a rectangular field = 120 m

To find: Perimeter of rectangular field

Solution: Perimeter of rectangular field = 2 (length + breadth)

                                                              = 2 (150 + 120)

                                                              = 2 (270) = 540

Perimeter of a rectangular field = 540 m
