Introduction : -
Blood is a fluid that carries oxygen, nutrients and other food materials and flows through a pathway called blood vessels. It is pumped to various parts of the body by the heart through arteries and sucked back through veins from multiple parts of the body. Arteries carry oxygenated blood from the heart to various parts of the body while the veins bring deoxygenated blood from different parts of our body towards the heart.
As such, human blood is mainly divided into two basic parts
1) Liquid part
2) Solid part
1) Liquid Part - Plasma
The liquid part of the blood is called plasma and the solid particles of the blood float over it. The fluidity of blood is because of the presence of plasma.
2) Solid Part -
The solid part of the blood consists of the following items which float in the plasma of the blood.
A) Red Blood Cells (RBC)
These are the cells present in the blood plasma, which contain red pigments called Haemoglobin because of which human blood is red in colour. Haemoglobin present in thRBCBC of blood combines with oxygen in the lungs and form oxyhaemoglobin and flows to various parts of the human body, thereby, distributing oxygen to multiple cells of the human anatomy for aerobic respiration.
B) White Blood CellsWBCBC)
These are the cells present in the blood plasma which directly relates to the immune system of human body WBC cells fight against the foreign agents (germs, bacteria, virus etc.) entering the human body thereby keeping the immune system strong.
C) Platelets
These are the cells present in the blood, which helps the coagulation of blood in the wounded places of our body.
Thus, blood plays a vital role in the overall maintenance of the human body.
