Partition of India was the final act of the "Divide and Rule" policy of the British even as they knew that their days were numbered following the change in the international geo-politics after the second World War and the winning country America wanted England to close down their colonies across the world. The Indian leaders of that time were blinded by the thoughts of their personal gains and closed their eyes to the sad consequences that followed:
1. Riots took place in Bengal and Punjab in 1947 in an unheard of scale and many thousand innocent lives were lost.
2. Pakistan invaded Kashmir in 1947 and when the invaders were almost driven out to their original positions by the heroic Indian army, Indian leadership capitulated and allowed United Nations to order a cease-fire. The country is still paying the price for this cowardice.
3. Undescribed hardship faced by the families of displaced persons who either migrated to Pakistan or India after the partition.
4. India is unable to rise to the status of a super power which it deserves to be because of this drain on our resources and the third countries are making merry because of this conflict.
