Mechanics ( Basics )
Here in this lesson, I would like to give you the basic introduction of Mechanics.
We know that every effect is generated by a cause, Same is here in Mechanics, Suppose a body is in motion, so here the effect for the body is its motion which can only be generated by some kind of force or maybe by some kind of torque, which we can say the cause of the effect.
One should also remember that for a body in motion or in rest you can only see the effect(whether in motion or in rest) but You can never see its cause of motion ( like you can not see the force or torque acting on a body).
.
So in Mechanics, you have to find the values which you can not see with the help of values which you can see, like with the help of Motion you can find out the Force or Torque, This thing is very important and one should learn this very well.
MOTIONS OF A RIGID BODY
We know that motion of a rigid body is defined as Statics(rest) and Dynamics(motion)
STATICS: If the net effect of Forces or Moments on a rigid body is zero this is known as Statics part of the motion.
The knowledge of Statics is very important in the study of Beams, Columns, Structures, Trusses, Frames, Bridges. So please pay huge attention to understand this topic properly, it will further help you in your higher studies.
In STATICS we study about the equilibrium of Forces and Moments acting upon a rigid body on the basis of which you will study about Trusses and about the Principle of Virtual Work.
DYNAMICS: if a rigid body is in motion due to the net effect of Forces and Motions than we define it as the dynamics part of the motion
DYNAMICS is further classified into two parts
- Kinematics- Study of motion Without knowing its Cause(Forces or Torques).
- Kinetics- Study of motion With its cause (Forces or Torques).
Kinematics always come before studying Kinetics, actually, there is a cause for this
I have earlier told you that in Mechanics You have to study motion for calculating the Forces and Torques. The same thing happens here. If you want to study Kinetics you have to first go through Kinematics
Position Vector -------> Velocity Vector ------> Acceleration Vector---------> Force or Torqe( with the help of Laws of Motions)
So this is the procedure of studying Kinetics with the help of Kinematics.
