Aim of the chapter is to help students to understand the issues which are acting as complications of Indian Economy and measures which can be taken to control it.

A summary of the chapter is presented below for understanding.

The major problem acting as an obstacle to the Indian Economy is its ever-growing population.

The Indian population has its typical features - to name a few - We are the second most populated country, we are characterised with a high birth rate and low death rate, we have an unfavourable male-female ratio.

We are in a stage which is typically known as Population Explosion.

What causes this population explosion? Prime factors are Birth Rate and Death rate, Early Marriages, Illiteracy, Poverty, to name a few

What are the effects of this phenomenon called Population Explosion? Important ones are Unemployment increases. There is pressure on land (density of population per sq km), Food problems, Social problems etc.

The issue of the population needs to be tackled with primarily the following ways:

- Economic measures

- Social measures

- Family planning

True, these are 3 or 4 fundamental problems. Population control is a sensitive issue in a diverse polity. We must develop a new growth paradigm. With expert focus in line with today's global market competitiveness, and generate more new macro policies to maintain insular growth of all industries to cater to local & Indian states, the only to abroad countries from east & far east. It reduces population pressure on land/agriculture sectors & develops appropriate tertiary industries. Also, it will boost our GDP & regenerate growth to surpass China.
