Overview

Not yet done professional tutorship. But I am continuing my PhD now and closely connected with academics. I have pretty much experience to understand where students lack in their studies. I can guide them on their approach to appropriate problem solving.

total enegy of oscillator= 1/2 mw^2 a^2 where a is the maximum displacement of oscillator. this will be the maximum PE when KE is 0, i.e. at y=a, where v=0. Now PE at a location y = 1/2 maximum PE hence 1/2 mw^2 y^2 = 1/4 m w^2 a^2 solving y=a/sqrt(2)

(ii) when a aeroplane engine runs, it generates sound in various frequencies. Every matter in the world has a natural frequency of vibration of its own. when the frequency of sound produced matches the natural frequency of vibration, it causes resonance and vibration with a larger amplitude. this causes rattling sound of windows.

(iii) time period of simple pendulum is directly proportional to square root of the length. so if length quadraples time period doubles.
