In Selenium interviews in India, do interviewers ask you to write programs or just ask you to identify the theories behind core concepts? What are the chances/percentages of each case?

Nowadays they are asking for more programmatic questions

In which platform does Selenium WebDriver work, other than a website?

Selenium supports only web automation. if you want to automate non-web appln, there are other third party tool along with selenium supports. for instance if you want to automate mainframe you can use groovy along with selenium.

Is it necessary to learn the Selenium IDE before learning Selenium Webdriver?

No Need. Its older component of Selenium and its just record and play back method. u can start with webdriver

Is it necessary to have knowledge of any programming language to learn Selenium?

Off-course.. You need to know core Java or Python/Ruby/php

Is Selenium in automation a good career?

Yes. Definitely. At least for another 3 years it will be in booming. But apart selenium you have to be good in API testing(REST API), programming in Python, perl, Security Testing.
